Leagues Cup quarter-final matchups and bracket set: will Liga MX be on pause?

The league phase of the Leagues Cup has officially concluded, and the top eight teams from Liga MX and Major League Soccer are now set to face off in the quarter-finals. These matchups will determine who advances to the semi-finals of the tournament that brings together the two premier soccer leagues in North America.
FC Juárez had a chance to punch their ticket to the next round, but fell short in a penalty shootout against the New York Red Bulls. That loss left them without enough points to finish among the top four in Group B, which was exclusively made up of Liga MX clubs. As a result, Juárez joins the list of teams eliminated from the competition.
Here’s how the 2025 Leagues Cup quarter-final pairings shape up:
- Toluca vs Orlando City
- Pachuca vs LA Galaxy
- Inter Miami vs Tigres
- Seattle Sounders vs Puebla
Liga MX’s biggest guns fail to fire
Toluca, Pachuca, Tigres and Puebla have emerged as the top Liga MX performers in this year’s tournament. What’s especially striking is the absence of Mexico’s so-called “big four” – Club América, Pumas, Chivas Guadalajara and Cruz Azul. None of them managed to qualify for the knockout stage. Pumas came closest but fell short in their final opportunity.
Quarter-final matches are scheduled to take place between August 18 and 20, with kickoff times still to be announced.
Will Liga MX pause again?
During the group stage, Liga MX paused its regular season to accommodate the tournament. However, that won’t be the case for the knockout rounds. These matches will be played midweek, similar to the scheduling format used in the CONCACAF Champions Cup. That said, teams that reach the final will have to postpone their domestic league fixtures to compete for the Leagues Cup title.
