New crackdown in Liga MX after violent weekend clashes

Publicado el: August 22, 2025

Violence once again marred Mexican soccer last weekend, with clashes breaking out at Akron Stadium and at Estadio Universitario in San Nicolás de los Garza. In response, Liga MX has announced new protocols aimed at curbing unruly behavior in stadiums.

In a statement published on its official platforms, the league laid out the steps it will implement starting this weekend to prevent incidents among fans. It also released the findings from recent reviews conducted in coordination with security authorities.

New measures

The league reported that before each match, Liga MX officials will coordinate with security forces across all three levels of government to carry out operations inside and outside stadiums. The organization is also seeking to classify violence inside venues as a serious crime – a move that would allow for harsher punishments against those responsible.

Additionally, top-flight clubs will be required to monitor individuals who disturb the peace. Over the coming weeks, Liga MX will launch a campaign against violence, with the goal of raising awareness among fans and fostering safer environments.
